Resources That Increase Food Security
The Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) reimburses the licensed home child care providers in Connecticut for serving nutritious meals and snacks to the day care children in their care. CACFP offers nutrition consultation with CACFP nutrition experts through home visits and monthly newsletters. CACFP currently has 150 licensed home care providers serving approximately 1,200 children.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program provides nutritious, supplemental no-cost food, nutrition education, health service referrals, and breast feeding support to eligible families. Vouchers are provided for specific WIC-approved foods that can be exchanged at participating markets and stores.

Safe Decent Affordable Housing
Access is committed to providing opportunities for residents in our service area to have safe, affordable housing. Our programs include the rehabilitation of multi-family homes that are available for purchase, as well as funding to help current homeowners who are income eligible improve their properties.

Access sponsored two HUD-funded, one-bedroom-unit affordable housing complexes for seniors. Access Senior Housing of Willington (ASHoW) operates Willington Woods featuring 32 units and Access Senior Housing of Franklin (ASHoF) operates Elisha Brook featuring 27 units. Two managed properties in Tolland and Brooklyn.

Next Steps Supportive Housing assists chronically homeless, single adults diagnosed with serious mental health and/or chronic substance abuse issues. The Supportive Housing for Families® program provides families served by the Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF) throughout the state with support services and access to safe, quality, affordable and permanent housing. Enrollment in this program is by referral only.
Income eligible households at risk of going without heat during the winter may apply for Connecticut Energy Assistance or the Contingency Heating Assistance Program. Pathways to Jobs and Self-Reliance
Case Managers provide crisis intervention to individuals and families in the following (but not limited to) areas: Food Bank, Energy Assistance, Budgeting Workshops. The first stop for those seeking assistance. Customer needs are assessed and plans are developed for assistance with employment, DSS benefits, housing, transportation, referral, and information about other Access programs and other community providers.

Access to Employment (A2E) is a new training program designed to help under and unemployed individuals in Northeastern Connecticut find and maintain successful employment in specifically identified job openings in the region.

Crossroads is an eight-bed S.W.E.T.P. (Supportive Work Education and Transition Program) that serves male and female adolescents between the ages of 16 and 20 years. This program is a community-based transitional living apartment program that strives to empower young adults to reach their full potential. Youth in this program are referred by the Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF).
